There are a lot of fantastic-looking debuts coming out in 2014. It took me a while to narrow down the list to ten of the ones I’m most looking forward to reading. I’ve listed them in alphabetical order.
* The cover to Snow Like Ashes has yet to be revealed, so I created a stand-in for the cover lineup
A Girl Called Fearless by Catherine Linka (Goodreads | Amazon)
The idea of teen girls being a commodity is both horrifying and intriguing. Plus, there’s the flight from authorities, a dystopic government, and the phrase “a girl called fearless.” I also love the cover and the fact that it’s more than a girl’s face or a girl in a pretty dress.
Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens (Goodreads | Amazon)
The synopsis reminds me of Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and I love that book. Also, Bodee likes like a quirky, interesting character. This story looks along the vein of what I like to see in contemporary novels.
Falls the Shadow by Stefanie Gaither (Goodreads | Amazon)
This looks creepy interesting. First, there’s the idea of a replacement for your dead sister (who could replace her? and how could you live with her knowing the original is dead???). Second, the clone could have murdered someone at school? Then there’s the fact that maybe what everyone wants you to think isn’t the truth after all. I’m hooked already, even without the super cool cover.
Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones (Goodreads | Amazon)
Superpowers + criminal MCs = win. While I love the good guys, I love the promise of adventure when the main characters are on the wrong side of the law (for reals, not just because they’re rebelling against a dystopic government).
Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne (Goodreads | Amazon)
I’m super stoked for this one. I’m a fantasy lover at heart, and this sounds so very good! Plus, when two enemies come together… that’s a recipe for some fun.
Servants of the Storm by Delilah S. Dawson (Goodreads | Amazon)
This sounds really creepy and dark and different. It sounds like a story that has the potential to haunt me long after I’ve finished the last pages.
Six Feet Over It by Jennifer Longo (Goodreads | Amazon)
Dark comedy about a girl who works in her family’s cemetery and struggles to find a place for death in her life? Sounds like a fun contemporary read. And I love the cover.
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch (Goodreads)
Another interesting fantasy read. I like the seasonal references and look forward to seeing how they play a role in the story.
Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen (Goodreads | Amazon)
Witches and trolls. Trolls. The last time I read a book with fantasy creatures not often seen in literature, it was The Hollow Kingdom by Clare B. Dunkle, and I loved it. This sounds like a promising fantasy!
Strange Sweet Song by Adi Rule (Goodreads | Amazon)
Magic and mystery set in a remote location. I’m already looking forward to this one!

I haven't heard of any of these titles! Not super surprising considering they are all debuts. Off to GoodReads I go to do a bit of research. Thanks for the list!

The only book on your list that I'm familiar with is Servants of the Storm, which I'm looking forward to also. But I need to look into the other books because they sound pretty good too.
