Where Roxanne names her ten favorite books she’s reviewed here and puts them in some order…. somewhat.
Hello, friends and followers! Roxanne here, after a rather lengthy hiatus!
So those of you with keen eyes may have noticed that I haven’t dropped in for a long while (again, hiatus), but I’ve had a lot of things happen in the months since my last post. I applied to a teaching program and took about two months to prepare for that. I got a job a few months ago, which I’m really loving despite the wonky hours.
Few things I’ll say before starting: all of the books on this list are ones I hadn’t read until I did so for review. I won’t be including books I reread, such as The Snowman, Killing Mr. Griffin, and the Poppy Z. Brite novels, to name just a few. This list is in a rather loose order; I’ve sorted them in ascending star ratings, but didn’t get too specific about which one I liked more within that mix.
Let’s kick things off with…..
10. Needful Things by Stephen King
A friend in a college French class recommended this book to me upon hearing that I was a big Stephen King fan.
This was a book that was brought to my attention by toomuchhorrorfiction. I was sold just by that cover (again, I’m a total sucker for awesome cover art), and I immediately went looking for it. This book really gave me a surprise, as I was expecting it to be some cheap thriller.
Halloween aptly fell on a day I was set to do a review, so I felt there was no other choice than this book to read.
6. Quoth the Crow by David Bischoff
Frequent readers of my reviews might remember that I’m a huge fan of The Crow, so it should be no surprise that I’ve been extending my love of the franchise outside of the films.
5. The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice
I had tried to read this book around the same time as Interview With the Vampire, but of course that couldn’t happen without having read the first two books of the series. However, once I read and reviewed Interview and The Vampire Lestat, this book was a breeze to get through. There were a lot of things I loved about this book, most notably all the interactions and moments with characters we’d met in the two previous books. My biggest issue with this entry was the sluggishness at the beginning. But that was easy to forgive with all of the vampire awesomeness.
4. Stardust by Neil Gaiman
So even though I’ve been a fan of Poe since I was a kid, I didn’t read this story until my freshman year of college when it was assigned to me in a Gothic literature course.
3. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
So even though I’ve been a fan of Poe since I was a kid, I didn’t read this story until my freshman year of college when it was assigned to me in a Gothic literature course.
2. The Mist by Stephen King
So even though I’ve been a fan of Poe since I was a kid, I didn’t read this story until my freshman year of college when it was assigned to me in a Gothic literature course.
1. The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice
I know, I know. I totally know what some of you frequent readers might be thinking right now: “Of course she picked a vampire book for number one.” Remember that this list isn’t in a specific order; numbers four through one were ALL five star reviews, but
So there you have it! Apologies for disappearing for so long!
