When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.
Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.
My favorite part about The Selection series is that I can count on the books for a light, fluffy read that doesn’t require much thinking. (That said, it’s also my least favorite part about the series because of the lost potential to develop the politics, culture, and history of the world.) As a teacher, sometimes I just want to kick back after work with a light read; in fact, many of us know how to appreciate a light read for different reasons (such as a beach read as opposed to a de-stressor). The Selection provides just that.
The Heir left us wondering who Eadlyn would select. With so many young men surrounding Eadlyn, it’s no wonder she felt her heart drawn to different people. Of course, we the readers all had our personal favorites. Some of us cheered in the end; some of us felt our hearts break a little. In the end, I think we can all be happy with Eadlyn’s growth. While she makes some poor decisions, she ends up asserting herself and proving herself capable of leading people.
While I love how Eadlyn matures, I really do wish that this novel at least developed the world and its politics better. Eadlyn’s decisions at the end are praiseworthy, but without the world building, it seems as if Eadlyn shirks her responsibilities as crown princess. There was little substance leading up to her big announcement to support it. Perhaps Cass wanted it to be a surprise for readers. It was certainly a surprise. However, it lacked sufficient preparation for it to give a lasting impact.
In the end, this was an overall enjoyable read to pass away the time, but like its predecessors, it is not a keeper for the shelf.

I still have to finish the first series, eeep. I mean, I want to finish the series and I DO agree that it's always great to have light/fluffy reads to relax with. :') But I guess nothing keeps drawing me back to reading them.😂 But the covers are gorgeous!
