I’m a big fan of Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles series. I picked up Wires & Nerve because I wanted to see more of the world. Of course, reading from Iko’s POV was a bonus.
My Thoughts
Wires & Nerve is the first volume in a duology that takes place between the end of Winter and the epilogue short story “Something Old, Something New.”
The highlight definitely had to be Iko’s narration. She’s always had a crazy fun personality, which makes for a bellyful of laughs in the midst of high-tension moments. I also loved seeing further evidence of her loyalty to Cinder and, by consequence, of her human-like traits.
While this was briefly touched in The Lunar Chronicles, Wires & Nerves further explores the question of what it means to be human. This is done through the contrast of characters who defy Iko (telling her that she’s just an android), characters who accept Iko as she is, and Iko herself, who sometimes forget taht she isn’t human.
I enjoyed seeing cameos of the old cast. It was a new experience to see them not just as words but as images on the page. I’m still not sure how I feel about seeing them in this medium, I did enjoy seeing how they have moved forward in their lives. To see that, while they’re now part, their lives are still very much interconnected.
And while I’m still not sure how I feel about seeing the cast in graphic form, I do like reading works in which the author branches out from (his or) her original genre. Marissa Meyer has gone a wonderful job with her first graphic novel, and Douglas Holgate’s illustrations go well with the story.
My only complaint would be that I wish there was more to read. 238 pages isn’t much to read in graphic novel form.
Overall, Wires & Nerve is a wonderful addition to The Lunar Chronicles world. Fans will enjoy seeing more of the cast and the world in this first installment of the Wires & Nerve duology.
Who would I recommend it to?
I recommend Wires & Nerve to fans of Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles quartet.
Final Thoughts
I love Wires & Nerve for Iko’s crazy fun personality, its contribution to The Lunar Chronicles world, and its exploration of what it means to be human. There’s nothing really that I didn’t like about the novel. It’s a wonderful book for fans of TLC.
Would I buy it? Yes, I would (and have). The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series š

I have Cinder, but I have yet to read it. I’ve heard great things about this author. So I can’t wait to read her books. This cover reminds me of a Graphic Novel. Now that would be nice. š
Great review.

The Lunar Chronicles is fantastic; it’s one of my favorite YA series! I’ve also read and enjoyed Heartless by the same author.
Wires & Nerves is actually a graphic novel! Because it has some spoilers from TLC, I’d save it for after you read TLC.
(Thanks for letting me know, Aleen. The email subscribe should work now!)
