What’s New
This week feels like it’s been a time for self care.
With work starting up again in a few weeks, I treated myself to a haircut. This is the first time in a few years that I’ve had layers, and I’m loving it. I also purchased computer glasses. Since I spend so much time in front of computers with lesson planning and writing, these will help reduce the strain to my eyes.
My Bookish-TV Life
Read
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition 3
- Nevernight by Jay Kristoff [ongoing]
- Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 2
- The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
- Twilight of the Elves [ongoing]
- Wicked Fox by Kat Cho
- Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind
Watched
- Stranger Things season 3 // I got through the last four episodes by covering my face with a pillow half the time, but I get the hype. The storytelling was good, and I’m interested in seeing what will happen next season. They’ve opened the doors to expand the world quite a bit.
- Toy Story // technically previous week, but I forgot to mention it. I’d forgotten how good this is!
- Toy Story 3 // I watched this for the first time last week. I love this film so much. The ending is so good and so bittersweet. My heart ❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
My Writing Life
It’s been a struggle to keep up with writing with professional development and my summer class taking up so much of my time. For the most part, I’ve finished the broad outline of various character and plot arcs. My focus now will be to continue drafting arc 1, which I hope to finish before teachers return to work, as I make a more detailed outline for arc 2.

What’s new with you this week in life and books?
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer says
Awww thank you for sharing my post Crystal ❤️❤️❤️ And self care is so important!! We probably don’t take care as well as we should but at least we do somethings. I hope you enjoy your hair cut. I hope you get to that arc before school starts. My friend says she goes back any day now.
Crystal says
My pleasure, Dani ❤️❤️❤️ I agree that self care is so important. I’ve learned a lot about it since starting work. Thanks so much, Dani. It’s looking that I might not be able to get the arc finished before I start work in a week. I’m taking an online class and need to finish my paper and final exam before I go back. I’m hoping now that I finish the arc before September. We’ll see!

Ooooh computer glasses? I’m curious about those; hopefully there will be less strain! (I should invest in them; too much screen time.) Self-care is good and you deserve it, Crystal! What did you think of Wicked Fox?
Crystal says
I’ve heard so many good things about computer glasses. I’m looking forward to my order coming in! (I know right? It’s so hard not to be in front of the screen; so much needs to be done on the computer or smart phone nowadays!) I really enjoyed Wicked Fox. I love the Korean culture that’s built into the world and how family plays such a pivotal role in both protagonists’ lives. It really shows us the complexities of family.
Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight says
Yay haircut! Funny, I just learned about computer glasses today and am going to try that. Aww puppy so cute!
Crystal says
It’s so nice to get a haircut! I hope you enjoy computer glasses, Kristen. And thanks! I love my puppy ❤️

My critique partner just told me about Terry Goodkind’s book. I’ll have to check it out. I just finished Stranger Things too. Glad there will be another season.
Good luck with the writing. I’m pretty busy now too and struggling to get in time to write for myself.
Crystal says
Wizard’s First Rule is Terry Goodkind’s first book, so it has its flaws – but the world is interesting, and I’m curious where the next book will take us. I’ve already purchased Stone of Tears and plan to delve into it next. Yes, I’m so glad that there will be another season. (It can’t end this way!! And the epilogue scene also has me curious how season 4 will expand the world.)
Thanks so much, Natalie! Best of wishes with your writing endeavors!

Yay for a week of self-care. And your dog is so cute!! That’s how my dog was when she was a puppy. I’m in the middle of Nevernight – just to update you on that. 🙂

Crystal says
Thanks so much, Lauren 🙂 I’m about 100 pages into Nevernight. Now that I’ve finished most of my other (used-to-be) current reads, I’m planning to focus on Nevernight this week. I hope you’re enjoying it! 🙂
Shelleyrae @ Book’d Out says

We had a big family reunion on the beach this weekend. It was blast seeing everyone, but my reading definitely suffered. Thankfully I had a long plane ride to catch up a bit!
