Author Interview
Tell us a little about yourself and your road to becoming an author.
I’m Brittni Chenelle an author of YA Multicultural Fantasy books. I had a really difficult time learning to read and write. I needed special classes at school and tutoring afterward and was lucky enough to have a support system that was so strong, they urged me to continue writing. By high school, I was writing books in notebooks but never thought of it as a potential career until college when I completed my first book, Red Ribbon Tree as a sort of love letter to my crush.
The Kingdom Cold Trilogy incorporates elements of Korean culture and Arthurian legends. What is the inspiration behind this book? Well, it seems all over the place when you say it like THAT. HAHAHA Kidding. I always intended on this story being influenced by Korean culture because, living in Korea, I am immersed in it every day but the Arthurian legend tie in was kind of a happy accident. You don’t necessarily see those two things intersect very often, which is what makes fantasy so fun.
What are Charlotte’s top three tips on being a princess?
- Don’t leave your ex-boyfriend alone with the wine.
- If you find a dragon egg, don’t touch it.
- If you see a guy and instantly want to marry him, he’s probably not the one your parents promised you to.
If you could spend a day with one of the characters from the Kingdom Cold books, who would it be and what would you do?
I would spend the day with Merlin casting magic on unsuspecting strangers. Or Minseo… for … research.
What are you currently working on?
I’m working on a Magic Academy Romance series called, The Fae & The Fallen that I plan to release this December. I also co-wrote a YA Greek Mythology story that will be released in November and a Kingdom Cold Spinoff short story, that is coming out in October.
Excerpt
Marriage was the duty of every princess, and love was the cost.
“I’m Prince Young of Vires,” I said, bowing deeply. My mind raced.
I’ll never love you.
I continued. “It’s an honor to meet you.”
You tried to kill me.
