Sizzling chemistry
The romance is edgy and will appeal to those who love passionate love stories with a slightly forbidden element. It definitely pushes the limits for the comfort zone of the YA genre, but it definitely fits in the YA boundaries while garnering some appeal for those who want something edgier than the normal YA romance chemistry.
Realistic characters who capture your heart
Noah and Echo are two very real characters. They have suffered through many hardships and continue to endure much more until they finally reconciliate the past and present and figure out where they belong.
Beautiful Writing
The writing speaks for itself. Check out the chapter sampler on Figment here.
Awesome guidance counselor
Okay, she’s actually annoying for much of the book, but that’s because Noah and Echo don’t trust her at first. When they learn to open up to her, you see just how awesome she is. She actually cares a lot about the students under her care and always acts with their best interest in mind.
Adorable little boys
Noah’s little brothers are adorable. I loved every moment that they appeared! So, yes, I had to give them their own category. They’re that special.
Awesome friends
Not the bitchy ones that want you to change for them, but the true friends who stick with you through the good and bad times. Noah’s friends and their bizarre relationship. These two stoners are absolutely adorable together.
If you can’t tell already, the characters are what really bring this story to life.
Tugs at your heartsrings
The stories that impact you emotionally are the best ones, the ones that stay with you long after you finish reading the book. this is one of them.
A dynamic relationship
Echo and Noah don’t fall in love right away, though the chemistry is there. In fact, they initially try not to feel anything for each other. The romance progresses as they help each other heal from the wounds of the past. It’s a beautiful, fun, sweet relationship.
The sweetest bad boy to ever live
Noah isn’t really a bad boy. He was the golden boy once and is going through some tough times. I’m going to ramble if I keep going, and I know you don’t want to read a whole essay on this… (maybe another day) … so here’s the one perfect example: He gives his one coat to Echo sometime in the novel although he’s going to be freezing without it.
Relevant Themes to the YA Genre
Social alienation, drugs, foster care, peer pressure, sex. These issues are dark but so very relevant to high school students. Katie McGarry tackles these issues in a realistic manner and without drawing overly much attention to them. she handles them like they are a part of everyday life, which to many people they are.

I read this book and absolutely LOVED it! It's by far one of the best YA contemporarys out there. The relationship between Echo and Noah was so tender and sweet. And,all of the side characters had just as much power to pull on my heart strings. I would, and have, recomend this book to anyone and everyone that loves YA contemporary romance.
