Hi everyone!
I was recently hired to teach HS English and two Creative Writing electives in a low-income school district. The last teacher didn’t leave anything, and my department doesn’t have any resources for me. As a result, I’m essentially having to furnish my classroom from scratch. I’ve already spent a few hundred dollars, and there is a lot more that my classroom needs to be student ready.
One of my biggest goals for this year is to build a classroom library to encourage students to read. If you have any books that you can donate, please send me an email. I can also use some bookcases (tall and small) to hold these books as well as an ottoman and tall reading lamp for a reading corner.
Other things that my classroom can use: various school/office supplies, craft supplies for projects, wall art/decor, and organizing supplies.
If you’re in the Dallas area, we can arrange to meet up. If you’re located elsewhere and would be willing to ship books or supplies, that would be fantastic. Alternatively, I created an Amazon wishlist of items that I can use for my classroom.
I am grateful for anything that you can give. Having a well-furnished, well-stocked classroom goes a long way to building a learning environment and helping students feel welcome!

I really don’t have any extra money for a couple weeks, but if you still need things then, I might be able to help a bit. I’ll have to look at your Amazon wish list. I tweeted though!

Thanks so much, Lauren! I’ll likely still need items in a couple weeks. As needs arise or are fulfilled, I will update the list.

Oh man! Wish this was a couple years ago. I gave away all my teaching supplies and most of my books when I retired from the classroom. I’ll take a look at what I’ve got.
Love that you are doing this, Crystal!

Best of luck. My mom is a teacher in Texas as well, so I know the challenge that building a library can be. I’ll share the link to this post too!
